Have you met Jessica Geissberger and Ashley Holliday? They are consistent attendees during the 4:30 weekday classes and are around Saturday mornings. At Ashley’s insistence and passion for CrossFit, they joined Back Alley in September of 2014. After stalking a few boxes online, Ashley and Jessica decided on Back Alley because of its community.
“It is absolutely incredible, how a small community of people such as a Box can suddenly become so important to you,” Jessica said. “We would have never gotten this far without the help and encouragement of our coaches and BACF friends.”
That sense of belonging and community led the ladies to sign up for the 2015 CrossFit Games Open competition. Signing up came with its fair of intimidation, but they rose to the challenge, even completing one WOD as prescribed (Rx). “During the process, we learned to become very competitive with ourselves,” Ashley said. “I found, as the Open progressed, we pushed each other harder because we knew what we were capable of.”
As many have learned, CrossFit has taught Ashley and Jessica that they are more capable than they gave themselves credit for. Since joining Back Alley, they have accomplished a lot and found reward in seeing how their bodies and minds are stronger and how to reach new goals. Doing a work out Rx, or hitting a new PR is an incredible feeling of accomplishment. And these ladies love that there’s always room for growth in CrossFit.
“When we think of CrossFit, we think of friends,” the duo agreed. “The workouts seem insane, but they are doable. They are doable because our coach is there showing us how to do it right. It’s doable because even though we hate every minute of Fran, our friends and coaches are standing next us telling us we can do it. It’s doable because our coaches take the time to help us modify. It’s doable because even though we didn’t believe we could do it, our Back Alley family did. And in the end- we’ve exceeded our own expectations.”
More on Ashley and Jessica:
Jessica’s: “She must find a boat and sail in it. No guarantee of shore. Only a conviction that what she wanted could exist, if she dared find it” – Jeanette Winterson
Ashley’s: “Don’t be afraid of your fears. They’re not there to scare you. They’re there to let you know that something is worth it.” – C. JoyBell C.
Three words that describe us: Spontaneous. Caring. Resilient.
When they are not in the box, you can find them: Traveling. We love taking little road trips, even if it’s just up north for the night. We love getting out of Phoenix and exploring new towns.
Favorite girl WOD: Ashley loves Annie. Jessica has only done few benchmarks, but she would love to accomplish Fran RX.
We CrossFit because…: We love it! We love working out with our Back Alley peeps.
