Since September of 2014, Chris Tanner has been a regular at the 5:30 a.m. class. As the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. That dedication and early alarm has paid off for Chris.

Despite his newness to CrossFit, he signed up for the BACF paleo challenge. His goal is to get in the best shape of his life. What better way to do that by coupling the high intensity WODs with clean eating. The challenge helped him shed 12 pounds and see increases in his performance. The hardest part of the challenge for him was giving up BEER! [We hear ya, buddy!]

“Eating has never been a problem for me; it’s the beer that was the problem,” said Chris. “After a long day, it’s nice to have a couple cold suds. Since that was a no-no during the challenge, I substituted lime flavored seltzer water with a couple key limes.”

Chris has three small children and owns his business, Tanner Motors, so maintaining the paleo lifestyle is a big challenge for him.

”During the challenge, I spent so much time preparing food, cooking a paleo meal for me then having to cook a meal for the rest of my family,” he said. “With our work schedules, kids’ school schedule, three kids in sports year round, it is very hard to maintain a strict paleo diet, but I’m going to integrate the lessons from the challenge into our day-to-day as best I can.”

While he isn’t a paleo convert, he did learn that clean eating provides the necessary fuel to improve performance. We look forward to watching Chris’ journey unfold.

What have you found most valuable about your Back Alley membership?: The coaches are awesome. They have knowledge, provide positive reinforcement, and take the time to make fun of my overhead squat. The BACF community is one-of-a-kind.
